Reporting & Resolving Squawks

How to file a squawk, track open maintenance items, and mark them resolved.

What Is a Squawk?

A squawk is a reported defect or maintenance item on an aircraft. Open squawks appear as a warning in the checkout verification dialog to alert pilots before departure.

Filing a Squawk

  1. Open the aircraft and go to the Squawks tab.
  2. Click Report Squawk.
  3. Fill in:
    • Title — short description (e.g. "Left landing light inoperative")
    • Description — additional detail, conditions, when first noticed
    • Severity — select Informational, Caution, or Grounding
  4. Click Submit.

The squawk is now open and visible to all members with access to that aircraft.

Squawk Severity Levels

SeverityMeaning
InformationalNon-airworthiness item, monitor only
CautionMay affect operations — pilot should be aware
GroundingAircraft should not be flown until resolved

Open Squawks in Checkout Verification

When a pilot checks out an aircraft for a reservation, open squawks are displayed in the pre-departure checklist. The pilot must acknowledge each open squawk before proceeding.

Resolving a Squawk

  1. Open the aircraft → Squawks tab.
  2. Click on the open squawk.
  3. Click Mark Resolved.
  4. Enter resolution notes (optional — e.g. "Replaced landing light bulb per AMM 33-21").
  5. Click Save.

The squawk is moved to the resolved list and no longer appears in checkout verification.

Viewing Resolved Squawks

On the Squawks tab, toggle between Open and Resolved to see the full history.
